Bob and Nita were married in August 1977 a few months after committing their lives to Christ. They have two daughters, Shaunna and Abigail. (Shaunna is married to Phill Crust, FBC’s youth pastor and they have four children). Bob and Nita met in radio broadcasting school in Minneapolis, MN. While there they began attending Jesus People Church (a non-denominational charismatic church, that later became known as Cedar Ridge Church, affiliated with the Assemblies of God). After a singularly unimpressive radio career, Bob was invited to become the office administrator for the church.
It was during a tumultuous and disappointing period that they “learned to love the church” as God’s plan to make himself known in the world. Through a series of unusual circumstances, Bob became the senior pastor of the church. Quite a challenge it was! He had no Bible school or seminary training. It’s true what they say, “churches bring up pastors.” Eventually, God blessed the congregation by making a way for Bob to attend seminary. After nineteen-plus years of service, God “transferred” them to Colorado to serve churches in the Baptist General Conference (Converge).
In 2003 Faith Baptist Church asked Bob to serve as the interim pastor while the church looked for a new pastor. The next year the church invited Bob to serve as pastor. Many changes have taken place in the life of Faith since then but some things have remained the same. The DNA of the church -- spiritual fellowship, the centrality of God’s Word for life and mission and a deep desire to grow in Christ -- has remained constant since the founding of the church. It’s a good place to be.
Where did Bob and Nita grow up? Bob (Poughkeepsie, NY and Boulder, CO). Nita (Frazee, MN).
Favorite Bible verses: Philippians 3:8, 9; Romans 8:14-17; Ecclesiastes 7:2.
Favorite authors: Too many to name! But start with Puritans like John Owen, Thomas Watson, or John Bunyan. Then come to the best works of our day in John Piper, James Boice and D.A. Carson.
Favorite food: almost anything Italian, but especially pizza.
Favorite movies: Braveheart (Aye, what else with such a Scottish heritage?)
Favorite things to do: traveling, camping, hiking, reading as much good theology as we can get our hands on.
No one would guess that: Prior to an unimpressive career in radio, Bob was a mostly an out of work actor. God’s mercy and grace is truly amazing!
